First Annual R&R Excels

Seven veterans spanning 40 years of military service adventured to partake in RFJ’s first offering of Ruck Up & Rebuild (R&R).  Participants enjoyed a wide range of holistic health activities including Crossfit, stress management, ceramics, yoga, community service, and, of course, riding over three days and two nights.

Nutritious and delicious meals were prepared by RFJ staff and volunteers, offering time for social connections and reflection.  Evenings allowed time for relaxation in the serenity of the countryside.

One veteran contacted Ride for Joy to share his reaction to R&R.  He said, “I wanted to write you and thank you for allowing me to participate in the R&R for Veterans. It was very well coordinated. The classes were interesting and helpful. I know that none of this would be possible had it not been for the awesome volunteers and staff. Everyone was so helpful and guided me throughout my time there. I really enjoyed riding. The meals were great and I really enjoyed it.

“When someone is blind, there are certain things they are able to sense and feel and I wanted to share this with you and your staff and volunteers. First, being at the ranch brought a feeling of peace and calmness. I sensed through your voices and touch that the people who helped me really and truly wanted me to have a great experience. I felt their excitement for me. I am grateful for everyone. It is with heartfelt gratitude that I say “thank you to all” for this awesome program that helps Veterans like myself.

“Sincerely yours,
Sgt. USAF Retired”
