Ruck Up & Rebuild

The first annual Ruck Up & Rebuild, or R&R, was held May 23-25, 2017 and met with rave reviews.  Participants, staff and volunteers enjoyed the tranquility of the ranch and activities, utilizing the time to disconnect from technology and stress.

One participant wrote, “I wanted to write you and thank you for allowing me to participate in the R&R for Veterans. It was very well coordinated. The classes were interesting and helpful. I know that none of this would be possible had it not been for the awesome volunteers and staff. Everyone was so helpful and guided me throughout my time there. I really enjoyed riding. The meals were great and I really enjoyed it. When someone is blind, there are certain things they are able to sense and feel and I wanted to share this with you and your staff and volunteers. First, being at the ranch brought a feeling of peace and calmness. I sensed through your voices and touch that the people who helped me really and truly wanted me to have a great experience. I felt their excitement for me. I am grateful for everyone. It is with heartfelt gratitude that I say “thank you to all” for this awesome program that helps Veterans like myself.”

Sincerely yours,
Sgt. USAF Retired

Plans for 2018 have already begun!  The dates will be announced in the future.

R&R is designed for veterans to rejuvenate, connect with other veterans and community professionals, try new and healthy activities, and learn coping skills that can be used in everyday life.

Veterans will participate in therapeutic riding and other holistic programming such as yoga, Crossfit, art therapy, team building and psycho education.  Professional community providers will be onsite to conduct activities in his or her area of expertise.  Participants will also complete a project to beautify the Ride for Joy campus.

Veterans may choose to fish in the private pond (with a valid Idaho fishing license), enjoy the quiet country setting, hike, read, or play board games in the evenings.  Participants will have the option to stay in a GP Medium tent or individual tents unless other accommodations are required.

Meals and snacks will be provided.  R&R is free to veterans thanks to generous supporters.  Donors for 2017 were the J.A. Wedum Foundation, Caldwell Night Rodeo, and the Idaho Division of Veterans Services.

To sign up for R&R, please fill out the R&R Application and mail it to the barn fully completed.
