Autism Spectrum Disorder Presentation

Join us at the barn for a free presentation on Autism Spectrum Disorders. The presenter is Ivan Hardcastle, OTR.

Mr. Hardcastle has a Masters of Occupational Therapy from Idaho State University.  He has worked at the University of Utah Hospital inpatient rehabilitation center and the Boise Elks Pediatric outpatient clinic.  He currently provides services at Primary Therapy Source in Twin Falls and Burley and has extensive education and training in the treatment of ASD.

Ivan presented on ASD at the Idaho PATH conference to high praise and has agreed to bring his knowledge to us.

This presentation came out of requests from staff and volunteers to better understand how to work with our many riders who are "on the spectrum."  It is being provided for free, but donations will be accepted to assist in paying the presenter.

Please invite anyone who would benefit from learning about this mental illness.  RSVP to hminer@rideforjoy.org by 10/17, please, so seats can be prepared.

Veteran Culture Training Back On!

The Veteran Culture Training has been rescheduled to May 3, 2018 at Eagle Nazarene Church, room 111.

This training is open to anyone who is interested in learning more about interacting with our military personnel, both at the barn and elsewhere in civilian life.  It is highly recommended for staff and volunteers who are or will be part of the RFJ Veterans Program.   Please email hminer@rideforjoy.org to RSVP.

George Nickel, a staff member at the Wyakin Warrior Foundation, will be presenting on military life and reintegration into civilian life post service.  Originally from Youngstown, Ohio, George began his military career in 1989. His service included active duty in the U.S. Army, the Idaho Air National Guard, and finally in the U.S. Army Reserves. Over the course of his assignments, George was been a mortar crew member in the light infantry, a parachute rigger, an air transportation journeyman, and a combat engineer.

His deployments included duty in Saudi Arabia and Oman in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and in Iraq clearing improvised explosive devices during Operation Iraqi Freedom. George also spent twelve years as a correctional sergeant with the Idaho Department of Correction.

Due to wounds received in Iraq, George sought a new career and began studies at Boise State University in 2010. As a Wyakin Warrior, George earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology in December, 2013, and subsequently earned his Master’s degree in Social Work from Northwest Nazarene University in 2016.
